Assessment of tissue heating under tunable near-infrared radiation.
The time-temperature effects of laser radiation exposure are investigated as a function of wavelength. Here, we report the thermal response of bulk tissue as a function of wavelength from 700 to 1064 nm. Additionally, Monte Carlo simulations were used to verify the thermal response measured and predict damage thresholds based on the response.
متن کاملQuantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model
Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...
متن کاملManipulating pH using near-infrared light assisted by upconverting nanoparticles.
Near-infrared light can be used to manipulate the pH of aqueous solutions by using upconverting nanoparticle-assisted photocleavage of a ruthenium complex photobase. Upconverting nanoparticles and the photobase were also introduced into a pH-responsive hydrogel, in which near-infrared irradiation induced swelling of the hydrogel.
متن کاملApplication of near-infrared light intensity to determine normal and cancerous breast vessel contrast by gold nanoparticles
Objective(s): A novel technique for the early diagnosis of breast cancer involves the use of nanoparticles (NPs). The present study aimed to use gold NPs to assess the variations in light source transfer intensity. Materials and Methods: Blood samples with hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations of ×1, ×2, and ×4 were used to simulate normal and cancerous conditions in the breast. Spherical gold N...
متن کاملValidation of near infrared spectroscopic (NIRS) imaging using programmable phantoms
For much of the past decade, we have developed most of the essential hardware and software components needed for practical implementation of dynamic NIRS imaging. Until recently, however, these efforts have been hampered by the lack of calibrating phantoms whose dynamics substantially mimic those seen in tissue. Here we present findings that document the performance of a dynamic phantom based o...
